Tumbulgum Fishing Club Inc. Official Rules as at Jan 2024

 

Rules – 

  1. All members must have a current NSW fishing licence and/or valid exemption.

  2. ALL NSW DPI Fisheries rules apply to catch. 

  3. All boats need to be applicably registered and have correct safety gear at all times.

  4. Fishing is ONLY permitted within the Tweed Shire. River, estuaries, rocks, headlands & beaches. Offshore fishing is not permitted. 

  5. Drone fishing is not permitted.

 

Entry – 

  1. Registrations are between 7am and 9am, riverside across from the Tumbulgum Tavern.

  2. Payment in full is required before entry to the competition is granted.

  3. All competitors must sign a waiver (Annually).

  4. Entry is $10 per entrant. $15 for non members.

  5. Free bacon and egg rolls and drinks will be provided until they are out of stock.

  6. Stickers, stubby coolers, keyrings and brag mats (1 per member or family) are also free until out of stock.

 

Membership – (as at November 2023).

  1. Adult $40 for an individual

  2. Junior $30 for an individual

  3. Family $120  = 2 Adults / 3 Juniors.  

  4. Junior = under 16 years of age

  5. (Member benefits – Free fishing shirt – stickers – Stubby coolers) breakfast – drinks before and after comp and anything else the committee decides).

 

Fishing in the comp – 

  1. Fishing time starts from 7am until 2pm (last fish received 2pm sharp).

  2. All fish being registered must be photographed on a brag mat with the current Tumbulgum Fishing club code and a text to be sent with competitors name to 0498817668.  (All new members will receive a TFC brag mat) ANY digital enhancement or tampering with photos that result in, increase of size of fish or any advantage towards a win will be disqualified and will be subject to disciplinary action. Maximum penalty - return of all prizes won and 12 months disqualification, decided at the discretion of the committee.

  3. ALL NSW DPI Fisheries rules apply to catch. 

  4. All fish must be line caught and comply with DPI fishing rules - https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recreational/fishing-rules-and-regs

  5. Fish submitted MUST be caught by the entrant.

  6. Undersized fish can be registered but must be released. 

  7. 3 biggest fish in each category win prizes.  

 

Categories are –

  • Bream

  • Flathead

  • Mangrove Jack

  • Mulloway (Jewfish)

  • Trevally

  • Whiting

  • Tailor

  • Bass (may be included at the discretion of the committee).

  • Other species of fish and various random items including sticks, boots, thongs, dog tails and children under 130cm are able to be entered and may win a prize at the discretion of the committee.

 

Adjudication – 

  1. Is done by an independent adjudicator offsite not participating in the competition via iPad.

  2. Winners then translated onto the ‘winners’ template’ and announced verbally at the presentation and then transcribed to the ‘leader board’ located in the Tumbulgum Tavern.

  3. ANY digital enhancement or tampering with photos that result in, increase of size of fish or any advantage towards a win will be disqualified and will be subject to disciplinary action. Maximum penalty - return of all prizes won and 12 months disqualification, decided at the discretion of the committee.

  4. All submissions must be entered with the nose of the fish at the front of the measuring device (ie: Brag Mat), with code / sticker clearly in the photo. Your submission must include your name. No wrinkles in measuring device and photo must clearly show the whole fish, code and measurement. Submissions that are not clear and accurate will be disqualified.

  5. Winning entries of the same size fish will be determined by time stamp when submitted.

  6. Millimeters are not accounted for in adjudication. ie: 8.6cm is classed as 8cm. There is no rounding up to the next centimeter 

 

Presentation –

  1.  Presentation will be held riverside across from the Tumbulgum Tavern at 4 pm on the day of the comp.

 

  1. Prizes – 

  1. First, second & third will be awarded Addict tackle vouchers - $100, $50 & $25 voucher respectively.

  2. Should two of the fish in a category not be caught the prizes will go to the other divisions at discretion of the adjudicator.

  3. Top Bloke/Sheila award is at the discretion of the committee.

  4. Mystery fish – Prize is $100 cash (The mystery fish size and species is decided by the sponsor of the prize and notifies the adjudicator prior to the commencement of the competition and is not disclosed to anyone).

  5. Fish pic of the month $100 Addict tackle voucher is decided by social media votes. Photo with the most votes wins. 

  6. Members' draw prize is allocated at the discretion of the committee.

  7. Anglers must be present to collect prizes.

 

Anglers must be present (in-person) to receive a prize. All unclaimed prizes will go back into the prize pool. (Points toward the end of year champion competition will still be allocated to this competitor).

 

Special awards are as follows – 

 

  1. Fish pic – Goes to the best photo submitted of fishing outside the competition. Only 1 photo may be submitted per month for this competition (per participant) more than the 1 picture will result in disqualification.

  2. Top bloke/Sheila – Awarded to a deserving member who helps or does a good deed and the prize allocated is at the discretion of the committee.

  3. Mystery fish – The fish and size are decided by the sponsor and are sent to the adjudicator so as to remain a secret from all competitors and the committee. The winner must have caught a fish within 1 cm of the allocated ‘Mystery fish’ to be claimed, otherwise the money is jackpotted to the next scheduled competition.

If more than 1 fish is within the parameters for this prize then it will go down to millimetres and then if still tied then it will go down to the time the fish was submitted and the first fish submitted will be the winner.

 

    4. Lucky member draw(s) is drawn from the member list at random and the prize allocated is at the discretion of the committee, the member must be present to receive this prize. New members will be added to the prize pool in the following month from when they signed up. 

 

Championship calculation rules – 

  1. Each comp 3 anglers in each division (Senior/Junior) will gain points towards the championship in both Senior and Junior divisions.

  • 3 points for a win

  • 2 points for next best angler.

  • 1 point for third best angler.

Calculated by factors of -

  • Most fish submitted

  • Most appearances in the prize pool

  • Size of fish caught compared to others caught on the day.

  • Only the top 10 Results for each competitor will count toward the end of year tally (2 throw-aways, to allow for absence, bad weather etc….).

  • Both Senior and Junior champions will receive a trophy (second place is the first loser, so no trophy for second) and their name emblazoned on the perpetual leaderboard at the Tumbulgum Tavern.

        (d) Winners of each category will also have their name emblazoned on the perpetual leaderboard at the Tumbulgum Tavern.
